Grateful doesn't even cover it.
I'm just over 2 weeks out from having my ovaries and tubes removed and I can safely say I'm doing great! I took one week off from teaching and started back at it again at the beginning of last week. By Friday I felt like I was able to take a class and I did so again today. Slow and easy, following my breath and listening to my inner teacher as well as my body. Walking my talk as they say. That will need to continue as I prepare for the mastectomy one week from today. Friends have been emailing, texting, calling, sending cards, gifts and food. Thank you all so very much, you know who you are! They've been visiting from near (thanks for stopping in Lora, Chrissy and Corrine) and far! (thanks for driving down Pammie and flying out here Cutlers!)
As you know I have chosen to do these surgeries as a prophylactic measure. I had just a tiny bit of uneasiness about what the pathology of my ovaries might reveal. Even though I had no reason to believe that anything was wrong, there is always that chance that something isn't right. I mean you never think you're going to hear the words, "You have cancer" but it happens. And it happened to me. And I swore I was done with it. But I chose to have my ovaries removed because they are linked to the BRCA 1 gene and the high risk of cancer returning. That teeny bit of uneasiness brought up the notion....what if I already have ovarian cancer?! Ovarian cancer is one of the sneakiest cancers out there and often it's not diagnosed until it is in it's final stages. I am happy, no make that elated!, that my ovaries were cancer free. They sliced those bad boys up a lot just to make sure! So off we go to the next step without that fear.
One week from today I will have my surgery at York Hospital. I will be there one, maybe two nights. Then off to a hotel suite to recover. I will be in town for at least 10 days to go to my follow up appointments. My sister, sweetest sister on earth, will help to care for my two pups while I'm there and Jack gets to hang out with me :) I have the best friends anyone could hope for and they have organized meals to be delivered and I'm sure they'll be visiting....or maybe staring at me while I sleep, I've heard these words over and over....."Whatever you need." From my friends here in Maryland, from my home town friends, from my friends across the country, it just blows my mind. And then there is my family. I'm pretty certain I have the best one of those too. I know for sure that Jack is my rock. He always has been. I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Saying that I'm grateful just doesn't seem big enough to express how I feel. Tomorrow is a day to be thankful, but I choose to feel that as much as I can every day. My latest favorite and most appropriate quote remains..."Write your worries in sand and your blessings in stone." Wishing you holiday blessings with love, Tana
